The tūi chatters, the kākā cackles, and the kererū coos: each bird has its distinctive sounds from the moment they hatch. Te Taiao (the natural world) shapes their growth, stance, and song, until they are finally set to soar across the sky.
Pīpī Paopao weaves story and song, inspired by the unique characteristics of Aotearoa’s manu. This performance for 2 – 5 year-old tamariki continues the Māori traditions of using metaphors of the natural world to teach our own little hatchlings; so they too may flourish and fly into a world of their own.
Created and performed by Rutene Spooner (as seen with NZ String Quartet, Court Theatre) and Miriama McDowell (Waru).
